It's been ages since I've updated and, I'll be frank here, it's because I'm bored with the site. Lol. I've decided to stop making screencaps now. I'll upload the rest that I've got, but I won't be making more, or updating this blog any longer. I've only been getting about 3 hits a month and that's a little discouraging, so I give up! It's also very difficult to get ahold of many of Peter's movies and there are probably better sites out there with more up-to-date Peter info (check my links!). To those of you who might stumble across the site and find some joy in it, that's great! Help yourself to the screencaps and any other bits and pieces I've made along the way. Visually, it's incredible and the characters are all strong and interesting. I never liked Keanu Reeves until I saw him as John Constantine, the demon slayer trying to gain entry into heaven. Rachel Weisz plays his companion, a troubled cop named Angela, while Tilda Swinton plays the Angel Gabriel. Peter Stormare plays Lucifer, who pays a visit towards the end.

Gabriel

It is based on a comic and you can see this influence, as the graphics are very powerful and beautiful. The plot deals with the usual good vs. evil, but that doesn't make it boring. There is a lot of emphasis on individual's pain and inner strengths and weaknesses. I really liked the characters - Constantine is our hero and he's a cynical difficult man who smokes too much. Angela is very deep and tormented, struggling with guilt over her sister's death, but also aggressive and strong. Gabriel is cool (I'm glad they chose this actor for the role) and Lucifer is unforgettable (different from any other portrayal I've seen of the devil, but no less menacing).

Constantine has a bad trip

Bathtime for Angela

Sometimes the film is overwhelmed by it's own special effects, and there are things I think they shouldn't have bothered with (the tacky vermin man for example). Other times it gets a little lame and starts treading into sci-fi geek territory ("the spear of destiny" - couldn't they have come up with a better name?) Gavin Rossdale is also a little lame, trying to play a demon, but all this can be forgiven in the end.

Constantine and Gabriel

The scenes with Peter were among my favourite. I think this is one of his better performances. Rather than playing Lucifer as seductive and manipulative (as he's usually portrayed) he is gleeful, childish and giggly. But in a flash he can change into a snarling animal. He was such an overwhelming and nasty presence, he managed to make me NOT want to be in the same room as him. Which is some good acting!

Great, now you've made him angry

secret quote from abruzzi

another new link

I got this sexy photo from Prison Break Media... which has some photos of Peter I hadn't seen before. I'm sure everyone knows what it's about so I won't go into great details, but Jack Black is basically a young monk who wishes to become a famous wrestler. It's very similar in style to Napoleon, and I found it to be very funny in some parts, and generally not a bad movie. Peter has a very tiny role as the Gypsy Emperor and is only in it for one short scene (even though he is listed third on the credits!) but if you check out the special features on the DVD you will find a huge deleted scene featuring Peter's character, as well as some interviews.
Screencaps here

interview (2001)

Here is a nice interview with Peter Stormare. I just found the myspace page for the Norweigan movie Switch in which Peter is acting. I can't read Norweigan, so I don't have a clue what it's about other than snowboarding (lol) and once again I don't expect it will be released worldwide. But here are a couple of pics I borrowed from the site...

Peter looks very wild and woolly. Hopkins and Rock play CIA agents Oakes and Pope (respectively) who are working undercover in Prague on a case involving a black market suitcase bomb. When their mission goes bad and Pope is killed, Oakes is forced to hire Pope's clownish twin brother, Jake, in order to successfully finish the job. Problem is Pope has built a strong rapport with ex-KGB agent Adrik Vas (Peter Stormare) and it's going to take a lot of work convincing Vas that Jake is his brother before the mission can be successfully completed.

This is a boring film, lol. It isn't funny or exciting as it would have you believe and I could predict most of what was going to happen. Chris Rock is really awkward as a serious actor and not funny when he's supposed to be (the jokes he cracks are really old). The best parts about it are the scenery (it's set in Prague, so beautiful) and the soundtrack (the composer also did the soundtrack for Bad Boys 2).

And Adrik Vas!

Definately watch if you're a Stormare fan. Peter is very hot in this (I think I say this about most of his roles... but he really is). He is not his usual comical self, nor is he playing someone very devious, so he won't have you laughing or anything, but he does get a lot of screen time. And he is very suave wearing dark suits and gold jewellery. Just look at this image and be convinced..

(screencaps coming soon...)

Bad Boys 2

Bad Boys 2 (2003)

A sequel to the 90's action film starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as a pair of cops who like to do things their way. In this film they go about trying to bring down a dangerous Cuban drug lord (Jordi Molla) who is smuggling ecstacy into the States. At the same time, they have to contend with the fact that that Lawrence's younger sister (Gabrielle Union) is an undercover cop working on the same case.

This is a big budget action blockbuster with endless car chases and explosions, but it's better than the average action film because it's funny. Smith and Lawrence are a mismatched pair and the way they interact - with the other characters as well as each other - is very amusing. (I never thought I'd find either actor anything other than annoying, but there you go!) Comedy is incorporated throughout the entire film and things never become weighed down by the violence or emotion, so the film has this constant offbeat comic book feel.
The villain of the story, Johnny Tapia (a Cuban drug lord who lives with his Mum), is especially entertaining. He is a good blend of nasty and offbeat, and his scenes are just plain funny. The leading lady (Union) is also an enjoyable character, tough and cool, and able to get herself out of trouble without losing the smile on her face.

There are things I could criticise, but I think it goes without saying that action films are over-the-top and don't often make a whole lot of sense, so I won't. Although, there were a few scenes involving corpses that showed some bad taste and lack of respect for the dead (I would have left them out). In summary, the film is a good-looking action flick with a cool soundtrack, and serves it's purpose as a good bit of entertainment.

Now onto Peter! He plays the Russian mobster (Alexei) who deals and distributes Tapia's E. It's not a major role (he's kind of like the sub-villain to Tapia), but he gets decent screen time and some of the best quotes ("I'm sorry mr Tapia, I've gotta hang up, some fucking punk thinks he can die in my club"...) He's a very slippery, sleasy character who can't seem to keep his tongue in his mouth, and he plays it well (he's almost unrecognisable at times). Even though he's always given roles like this, he manages to keep it different from every other slippery villain he's played so far.

Check out the screencaps

Bruiser screencaps

Bruiser screencaps are now up. Check them out!

They Never Found Her

They Never Found Her (2007) is the name of a short film starring Peter, to be shown at the Cleveland Film Festival. Henry (Jason Flemyng from Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and From Hell), allows the people in his life - his wife, his boss, his best friend - to walk all over him. The day after he finds out his wife (Nina Garbiras) is having an affair with his sleasy boss (Peter Stormare), he wakes to find his face has been replaced by a clean white mask. He embarks upon a vengeful killing spree, taking out the people who have hurt him the most, while at the same time trying to keep a grip on his sanity.

This is a great film to catch Peter in, but putting him aside, I'm undecided on the film itself. The overall concept is great - one losing his identity when he won't stand up for himself - but there are downfalls which prevent the film from being as good as it could have been. It starts out well. Henry is going through his morning routine and listening to the radio, when a caller to the station commits suicide on air. This shakes Henry up a little, but he continues with his daily routine and heads to work. Interaction with other characters along the way introduce us to Henry's slightly melancholy and passive nature, and his need to please everybody. But his destructive desires are made clear through violent daydreams he has every so often, and he finds himself struggling between his passiveness and doing the things he really feels like doing. These initial scenes are very effective. So is the antagonism between Henry and his horrible wife... and her eventual murder (which is quite satisfying). But the film does descend into a bit of a mess, and the ending especially is pretty weak. I won't give anything away, but I will say it seemed as if the guys who made it got bored with the "thriller" genre and decided to turn it into a comedy. As well as this, there were some annoying and confusing parts (the party at the end) and some of the characters got pretty irritating (the covergirl, Number 9). These things really let the film down, and after such a good beginning, I ended up a bit disappointed.

Which is why it's a good thing Peter was in it! He made it worth watching a couple of times, even if it was just for his scenes. He is funny and shocking, and he pretty much owns the film. He plays a major character, a sleasy crack-snorting magazine editor named Milo, and it's an unforgettable role. Milo is a real bastard - a loud obnoxious womaniser who makes fun of his staff and exposes himself in board meetings and even lets his ex-wife take the rap for a murder - but you just have to laugh. It's like he walked out of a sitcom. He also shows off his package, participates in a few sex scenes and lifts weights without a shirt on (he's looking pretty good here). What else do I have to say? I loved him in this role...

Screencaps

The Lost World

The Lost World (1997)

Screencaps for The Lost World are now up. I like British gangster movies, and this film has a lot of great actors and funny moments. It stars John Hannah (Leo) and Famke Janssen (Lily) as a con artist couple who have to do one last job before they can retire. Brian Conley (Bruno) is their antagonist - a mean old gangster - while Peter Stormare (Julius) is Bruno's nerdy accountant. That's as far as I can go without ruining the plot, and that's fine, because I don't think I could explain much more than that anyway. The plot is very intricate and I had to watch it again with the commentary before I could understand the whole thing.

Leo, Lily & Moose

Much the same as in films like Snatch, Lock, Stock or Pulp Fiction there are many different characters within it, each with their own stories and intentions. Bruno was one character I really enjoyed. He was such a good villain - so nasty and spiteful (he's got the most devilish grin you've ever seen) but also a bit of a goose (he chooses the word "password" as his password...).

Bruno - check out that grin

I was also entertained by Julius, who reminded me at times of Kip from "Napolean Dynamite". He was such a dork and always getting pushed around by the other characters. It was so weird to see Stormare playing this part - it's the opposite of every role I've ever seen him in.

Julius - looking not so geeky

Great film with lots of humour and violence. Also, some good extra features - the writer and producer just crack jokes through the commentary, and there are deleted scenes and interviews that give you more insight into the characters and the actors who play them.

Arghhh!!!!!!

300+ Constantine...
400+ Armageddon...
300+ Minority Report...
almost 200 Nacho Libre...
and almost 1000 Circus screencaps, sitting on my computer, waiting to be uploaded onto the site. but sweet war film starring Nicolas Cage as a World War 2 soldier whose job it is to protect a special code talker. Being a war film, it's full of violence and heroic acts, and the bloodshed can get a little intense from time to time (I got so sick of the sound of gunfire by the end of it) but the story behind the Native American code-talkers makes it worth watching.

Peter plays Sergeant Hjelmstad, the boss, and a big handsome soldier. I spent half the film wishing he'd rip his shirt off. He's so hot in this. Disregarding the fact that it's based on actual events, it is a good film - tragic, suspenseful and with a good cast. But it is based on actual events, and this makes it slightly embarassing, as the makers seem to be trying very hard to convince us how evil and insane Hitler was (like we need to see young Hitler setting fires and beating dogs to be convinced). The film follows how he came to power, as well as giving us glimpses into his childhood, and focuses mostly on the man's emotional state of being. It's very subjective and seems to be more concerned with assuring us it does not support Hitler than with giving us a balanced perspective of a historical event, and the result is the portrayal of the man as a fiendish cartoon supervillain who can't speak without spraying his audience with crumbs. Which makes me wonder what the point of making this movie is, aside from showcasing the talents of the actors. You can't rely on it for fact, and it's too bleak a subject matter to be entertaining, but at the same time I can't call it a terrible movie. I like some aspects of it, and don't like others.

Anyway (thanks for reading that essay...) Robert Carlyle plays Hitler, and he really gives it all he's got. He plays a great psycho. Whether or not he plays a good Hitler is hard to say. Matthew Modine plays a writer called Fritz Gerlich, a "hero" figure we can rely on (since everyone else is pretty corrupt), and Julianna Margulies plays Helene Hanfstaengl, an interesting character whose story I would like to know more about. Peter Stormare plays Ernst Roehm, leader of the SA, and it's a very buttoned up role for him. He has all the menace of any of his other roles but without his usual charisma, so he keeps the character as he should be - unlikeable and unsympathetic. Which is appropriate for the movie, but not one of those Peter roles you totally enjoy. I'd like to have seen him break out - I mean Peter playing Nazi stormtrooper sounds a fantastic opportunity for him to do what he does best - but this was clearly one of those roles where he had to play it down.

The Big Lebowski

The Big Lebowski (1998)

This film is awesome, Peter or no Peter. Jeff Bridges is Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski, who is dragged into a kidnapping ordeal when he is mistaken for a millionaire also named Jeffrey Lebowski. All kinds of chaos ensues and we get to meet a great bunch of characters played by actors like John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore, John Turturro, and - of course - Peter Stormare.
Stormare is Uli Kunkel/Karl Hungus a German porn actor and member of a techno band, who wears a lot of black leather and keeps a ferret as a pet. His role is hilarious (I love the accent and the way he sticks German words into the middle of an English sentence) and he's in many scenes. But I just love all the characters and actors in this. John Goodman is awesome, Steve Buscemi is too cute, and "The Dude" is somebody you really want to aspire to be... kinda. It stars Nicole Kidman as a woman who is convinced her husband has been reincarnated as a young boy, while Peter plays her deceased husband's best friend. I can't say I didn't like the storyline - it was different - but everything else about the movie was so drab and uncompelling. It dragged out for ages, it was badly lit, the characters wore ugly clothes, and there were some scenes that made me squirm. Anne Heche played Peter's wife, and they made a real cute couple, but it was a pretty boring role.

Check out the screencaps

8MM

8MM (1999)

This is a dark and disturbing thriller starring Nicholas Cage as a detective who is hired to investigate a film depicting a young girl's murder. This takes him deep into a seedy world of pornography and violence, and introduces him to some of the nastiest characters you could imagine. Of course, Peter plays one of these characters - a porn film director named Dino Velvet. This is a memorable performance from him, as he plays this villain with a slightly comical edge, but never allows him to become likable. You can only stand back and marvel at his performance afterwards, and wonder how he managed to scare and disgust you so much! He is in quite a few scenes, so if you're a fan it's worth checking out, but if you're faint-hearted, keep the fast forward button close.

Check out the screencaps

The Website

The website's still under construction at the mo, however I have put up the screencaps for the films 8MM and Birth.
I've also written quick reviews for these films, just for a bit of fun. I've avoided putting in any spoilers, so don't worry!

Velkommen!

Ok, lucky me - I actually got to call this thing peterstormare.blogspot.com, and not peterstormare2 or anything! (Let's hope he doesn't want a blog of his own on this someday...)

Here we are. You've probably either stumbled onto this by accident, or else you're a big Peter fan who wants to read someone crap on about how great he is, OR you are the Peter and wondering why someone else has taken your name... sorry man. (I love your work). But however you got here the fact remains the same - this blog is intended as a site for discussion about the actor Peter Stormare and the things he has been getting up to. It's also an extension of a website I am building, where I can just blab on... like... how I wish Abruzzi was still in Prison Break and the show's just lost it without him... and how I was watching Fargo last night and was like "wow... he's so cool..."
That kind of boring crap that - unless you are a Peter fan - you'll probably get bored to death reading (I don't think even the actor himself could stand reading it).

So there. That's it. Welcome to it!
